Notes

Grey Fantail

A flycatcher with erratic flight. In its hunt for flies fans tail constantly.

Jacky Winter

Another LBJ. Prefers drier open farmland.

Lewins Honeyeater

A common honeyeater. Found in small flocks in flowering eucalypts.

Mistletoebird

Found wherever mistletoe grows.

Nankeen Kestrel

Often seen hovering over prey in open country. Easily identified in flight by broad black band near the end of tail.

New Holland Honeyeater

A common honeyeater. Found in woodlands and coastal heaths (common around North and South Heads).

Origma

On the surface just another LBJ. But this is an uncommon bird and the only bird endemic to NSW. It is confined to the Hawkesbury sandstone areas of the Blue Mountains and surrounding ranges. Its habitat is rocky areas and can be seen around the rocks at Jenolan Caves.

Pied Currawong

No introduction needed

Red Browed Finch

Distinctive red brow. Habitat is usually dense shrubs interspersed with open grass. Golf courses.

Red Wattlebird

Raucous “chokk – chokk” voice and distinctive red wattles on cheeks.

Rufous Fantail

Similar to the Grey Fantail in its habitat and behaviour.

Rufous Whistler

Another beautiful bird with musical voice. Similar to the Golden Whistler.

Scarlet Robin

Similar to Flame Robin and distinguishable by its darker throat.

Silvereye

A common little bird with a white ring around its eye. Seen them in Paddington.

Southern Boobook

A common owl found all around Australia (even seen them in Paddington). A loud “more-pork” heralds its presence at night.
